The Desktop Media CD-ROM has been designed for a 4MB (or more) Macintosh II, IIcx, IIci, or IIx. You should have version 6.03 or greater of System and Finder, be running in 256 color mode on a Apple 13" RGB monitor, and running in single Finder mode.
This application is designed to be run from CD. Click on *Click Me First* to start it. You will get far greater performance from your CD-ROM drive if you set the RAM cache to 64K and restart to make this change active. Do not make the RAM cache larger or you will run out of the neccessary RAM to run some of the animations.
You may drag the entire contents of the Apple Desktop Media folder (minus the Seminar Slides and MacWorld folders) to a hard drive to see increased performance but the animations have been optimized assuming CD-ROM access speeds (so sounds may no longer be synced as well to graphics).
********************If you experience an 'Out of Memory' error************************
This CD was tested on a 4MB Mac IIcx with very little installed in the System file beyond the Apple CD ROM inits and standard fonts and DAs (leaving about 3.5MB for the Finder and applications). If you are running on a 4MB System under single Finder and still run out of memory then it may be that there are too many fonts, DAs, cdevs, or inits loaded. Try removing some of these (such as 32-bit QuickDraw) or running the CD on a Macintosh with more memory.
